BioWare has released a new immense trailer for their highly anticipated game Mass Effect 3. The trailer dubbed “Special Forces,” and shows a lot of action in multi-player mode besides, giving a glimpse of different races you will see in this game. Watch the trailer below:

In Mass Effect 3, an ancient alien race known only as “Reapers”, has launched an all-out invasion of the galaxy, leaving nothing but a trail of destruction in their wake. Earth has been taken, the galaxy is on the verge of total annihilation, and you are the only one who can stop them. The price of failure is extinction. You, as Commander Shepard, must lead the counter assault to take it back. Only you can determine how events will play out, which planets you will save from annihilation and which alliances you will form or abandon as you rally the forces of the galaxy to eliminate the Reaper threat once and for all.

Resident Evil 6 Announced

Capcom has just formally announced Resident Evil 6. The game will be produced by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, who previously produced Resident Evil 4. Watch the debut trailer below:

It will be coming on November 20th to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and a PC version will follow later. The game will feature both single-player and co-op gameplay.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Kojima Productions has been clearing up some rumors and misconceptions regarding Metal Gear Rising Revengeance following the game’s unveiling yesterday.

The original Rising was announced as a game where you can chop up anything. The development staff quickly created just that. However, they felt that this alone would be insufficient and they no longer knew what the core of the game should be

Believing the project would not get completed, Kojima secretly cancelled it. At this point the Kojima team had already fleshed out many areas of the game such as story and motion capture work, and eventually Bayonetta and Vanquish developer Platinum expressed its passion for the project and offered its services in reinventing and completing Rising.

The title was changed because the game is different from the Metal Gear Solid series. It’s a new Metal Gear.

“We’ve only said that the period setting is several years after MGS4. Metal Gear Rising is not part of the Metal Gear Solid series. At present, we can’t say more than this,” Kojima posted on Twitter.

Kojima has also confirmed Rising will run at 60 frames per second, a requirement he personally requested..

“I made one request of Platinum: a cool Raiden who moves nice and smooth at 60 frames per second.”

When restarting the project, they were originally going to use the original story. After Platinum received the data from Kojima Productions, they said they wanted to remake the story.

The Last of Us

This is true, Naughty Dog is behind the game.

One of the most exciting announcements set for this weekend’s Spike VGA awards is the PS3 exclusive “The Last of Us“, which has been teased several times before.

The mysterious title seems to be themed around a real-world disaster involving a viral outbreak that leaves “millions feared dead or infected”. The first teaser that went live shows a post-apocalypse feeling trailer which you can watch below:

The second teaser was a viral video that referenced a fungus using bodies to grow.

Lately, a new screenshot featured a newspaper talking about the end of humanity and quarantine zones.

There’s not much else known about the title, though fans have since discovered this morning a very suspicious reference in Naughty Dog‘s Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

As you can see in the video on this page, a newspaper in the game’s opening scene makes reference to a “deadly fungus” is The Last of Us fungus the same as the Uncharted fungus? Could Uncharted and The Last of Us happen in the same universe? Could developer Naughty Dog be behind this new exclusive? Is Naughty Dog just friends with whomever is making The Last of Us? Is this all just a joke? We will find answers in the upcoming Spike awards. Stay tuned

Xbox 360 Has Biggest Sales Week in History

Xbox 360 has sold 960,000 units in the U.S. during Black Friday week, Microsoft announced today. That makes it the biggest sales week in the history of Xbox.

800,000 of those units were sold within a period of 24 hours. Besides, over 750,000 Kinect sensors were sold during the Black Friday week, combination of standalone and bundled.

“We have seen tremendous excitement from customers for our hot holiday gaming offers,” commented Chris Homeister, senior vice president and general manager of Home Entertainment at Best Buy. “Xbox 360 was among the best-sellers at Best Buy this Black Friday, and is a testament to the continued popularity of the gaming category this holiday.”

Microsoft added, “Xbox 360 should deliver its eleventh straight month as the number one console in the US.  With a robust holiday portfolio and the new Xbox LIVE dashboard going live on Dec. 6, we expect holiday momentum to continue, driving Xbox 360 to finish the year as the number one console in the U.S.”

As for the competition, Sony noted strong demand but did not provide a sales figure for PS3, while Nintendo had its best Black Friday for the Wii yet by selling 500,000 units.

Metal Gear Solid: Rising

Speaking to the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine, Hideo Kojima head of Kojima Productions, said the latest Metal Gear Solid title, Rising, might not appeal to fans of the series’ signature stealth gameplay but it “shouldn’t be a problem” for “those willing to try new things.”

“If somebody thinks ‘I love Snake’ and just really wants traditional stealth gameplay and that experience, then it may be hard to get into Rising,” Kojima said.

“But for people who are more open and willing to try new things, it shouldn’t be a problem.”

With Metal Gear Solid: Rising, they’re taking the Metal Gear Solid 4 approach to creating Raiden.

“Raiden in MGS4 was received very well, and I wanted to keep going with that direction in Rising. The people who liked him in 4 will like him in this, but it’s a personal preference.

“The character in the game is supposed to equal the player, so if you want to introduce things to a new recruit, you have to learn how to interact with that world along with the character. If we had Snake [in MGS 2] he was this old, experienced veteran and there would’ve been a disconnect with the [new] players. So that’s why we brought in Raiden.”

After a slight legal setback, id finally released Doom 3‘s source code to the general public.

The legal issue involved a piece of technology incorporated in the game called ‘Carmack’s Reverse‘, a stencil shadowing technique in Doom 3.

The problem was that it wasn’t developed by Carmack alone, but rather a lot of programmers and as a result ended up patented by Creative Labs. A deal was worked out that allowed id to use the technology in Doom 3, free of charge.

So Carmack got to work on rewriting some of the code, it simply involved adding four lines of code and changing two.

No game data is included with the source code as it is still covered by the original EULA.

Sony offered a partial answer to the Xbox 360′s group Netflix viewing this weekend by upgrading PlayStation Home to support group viewing through Crackle. Gamers can gather friends in personal and public spaces to watch “hundreds” of movies and TV shows for free. The movies are the same as on the web page and include big-name, if older, movies like Resident Evil and Snatch.

Crackle gets its own virtual TV screen or theater as well as a customized, simplified interface for picking movies from a gamepad.

Access just requires being a PlayStation Home member, also free, and the equally mandatory PS3. Fans can watch at the LOOT EOD Theater spaces as well as the Hollywood Hills House and Sunset Yacht spaces. Live RadioIO Internet audio streams and UStream live videos should come in December.

Sony has recently redesigned PlayStation Home project and these are some of new features the company provide to bring back a competitive service.

God of War IV‘s release date may have been leaked. New Zealand retailer MightyApe has listed the game with an estimated release date of September 28, 2012.

A job listing previously discovered on recruitment site Creative Heads has revealed that that the game may be in development, and this listing only adds fuel to the fire. According to the listing, the title is in the “military/combat” genre, and the person chosen for the position will start “immediately.”

The job is with Sony’s Santa Monica studio, which is responsible for developing all three previous God of War console titles. Since the portable God of War installments have been developed by Ready At Dawn Studios, Sony Santa Monica’s involvement could mean that the in-development title is God of War IV.

“Join the GOW team,” the listing reads. “The Santa Monica Studio is an open and creative environment, where we strive to make the best games in the industry. Join us as we embark on our next project.”

For now, Sony hasn’t confirmed that the game is in development and the release date is only a rumor.

DICE and EA Games have released the launch trailer for the highly anticipated Battlefield 3, which may end as the best, and most realistic action first-person war shooter video game ever made.

Activision has released a really badass new trailer, titled, Redemption, for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The game looks freaking awesome.

The game will immediately follow the events of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, where the Russian Federation continues its invasion of the United States of America, and has also expanded its offensive to Europe, including England, France and Germany. Campaign stages are also planned for Somalia, Sierra Leone, Moscow and Dubai. Gameplay videos from E3 2011 in Los Angeles showed Delta Force soldiers helping Navy Seal Teams force a Russian submarine to surface in the East River and boarding it to destroy the other boats in the harbor. Later on, Delta Force soldiers are on a mission to destroy a radar jamming installation on top of the New York Stock Exchange.

The game is scheduled to be released on November 8th 2011.

A new gameplay trailer for Battlefield 3 has just been released that shows off intense 64-player vehicle warfare, including jets, from multiplayer map Caspian Border! This marks the premier of jet gameplay as played at GamesCom 2011. Caspian Border is a multi-faceted, vehicle heavy map that exemplifies classic Battlefield gameplay:

In Battlefield 3, players step into the role of the elite U.S. Marines. As the first boots on the ground, players will experience heart-pounding missions across diverse locations including Paris, Tehran and New York. As a U.S. Marine in the field, periods of tension and anticipation are punctuated by moments of complete chaos. As bullets whiz by, as walls crumble, as explosions force players to the ground, the battlefield feels more alive and interactive than ever before.

EA also revealed that two new characters in the game that will be playable in the campaign missions. Dmitri “Dima” Mayakovsky, a Russian undercover agent, who will be fighting his way through the Paris stock exchange, and  Jonathan “Jono” Miller, a Marine Corporal who will be engaging PLR forces in the Tehran desert via a massive tank battle.

Battlefield 3 is set to be released on October 25th 2011 for the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC.

Sony announced on Tuesday it has purchased Sucker Punch Productions, developers of the Infamous and Sly Cooper franchises. This move ensures that all games developed by Sucker Punch will remain exclusive to Sony’s platforms going forward.

“Sucker Punch Productions is one of the most highly acclaimed development studios in the industry and we have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with the company for over 12 years. We are delighted to officially welcome them to the SCE family,” said Shuhei Yoshida, president, SCE WWS.

According to Sony, the Infamous and Sly Cooper franchises combined have sold over seven million copies worldwide to date. Day-to-day operations will continue to be run by the current management team.

“We’ve enjoyed an incredible relationship with Sony that has allowed us to combine our creative design capabilities with their guidance to make some of the best franchises to hit the PlayStation platforms. Equally important, the relationship with SCE has provided us the flexibility and trust to take creative risks and invent new properties,” said Brian Fleming, managing partner, Sucker Punch Productions.

We know that mobile devices such as iPad have become prominent devices for entertainment and gaming and are actually dominating the Game industry. John Riccitiello, the Electronic Arts CEO told IndustryGamers yesterday and this what he had to say about the matter:

Consoles used to be 80% of the industry as recently as 2000. Consoles today are 40% of the game industry, so what do we really have? I think that the pattern against which Nintendo is no longer resonating is over anyway. We have a new hardware platform and we’re putting out software every 90 days. Our fastest growing platform is the iPad right now and that didn’t exist 18 months ago.

The industry is undergoing a titanic shift, factors like the ease of publishing to the App Store, the extremely low cost to become a developer, the growth of free games and the rise of the female gamer (53% of mobile gamers are female) are rewriting the rules and making millionaires overnight.

It has been one year since LIMBO originally launched, and that year has been an incredible time for everyone at Playdead. Square-Enix has pushed a new Riddler trailer for Batman: Arkham City which is set for release on October 18th, 2011. I totally loved the first game Arkham Asylum and many have met it with a good perception. The trailer gives us a taste of the character known as the Riddler.

Popular hacking group LulzSec, responsible behind hacking the PSN, have announced that they will be retiring, exactly 50 days after forming the group.

The group have released a farewell statement urging all its supporters to support the AntiSec movement, saying:

“Again, behind the mask, behind the insanity and mayhem, we truly believe in the AntiSec movement. We believe in it so strongly that we brought it back, much to the dismay of those looking for more anarchic lulz. We hope, wish, even beg, that the movement manifests itself into a revolution that can continue on without us. So with those last thoughts, it’s time to say bon voyage. Our planned 50 day cruise has expired, and we must now sail into the distance, leaving behind – we hope – inspiration, fear, denial, happiness, approval, disapproval, mockery, embarrassment, thoughtfulness, jealousy, hate, even love. If anything, we hope we had a microscopic impact on someone, somewhere. Anywhere.”

LulzSec did go out with a bang however, the group claims they have obtained 50,000 passwords of Gaming forum members, 55,000 Battlefield Heroes Beta users’ data, AT&T Internal Data, 200,000 hackforums member data, AOL internet data and more. Read the full statement here.

Previously, the group were said to be taken down by a 17-year-old member of a hacking group named TeaMp0isoN_. While gaining attention through their acts of “hackery,” the group annoyed some members of the hacking community, as a member of hacking group TeaMp0isoN_ hacked the site of a LulzSec member, posting the following message (after defacing the site):

BREAKING NEWS: TEH LULZBOAT HAS OFFICALY SANK WITH 100S OF ANON MEMBERS ON BOARD!

No matter how many bots you gather, no matter how much people you lie to, no matter how much pre-made tools you use, you will _NEVER_ represent the real hacking scene, we warned you, we told you we do not make empty threats, we gave u 48hrs to secure your ircs yet u failed to do so, instead u posted hashes from public forums and then claimed you doxed us and laughed at the fact that i was 17years old. stop telling yourself that u are hackers, putting a ip into a irc is NOT hacking nor is using pre-made tools and scripts to grab databases… you do not represent the anti-sec movement, u are not allowed to greet underground groups like zf0, ab, h0n0, el8 like your member “AnonSabu” was doing, you will never be apart of the underground scene, if anyone thinks you are underground and can actually hack they have no idea about what happens in the underground scene. oh and TeaMp0isoN Issue 2 is coming out VERY soon exposing lulzsec members (pictures, addresses, passwords, ips,phone numbers etc). . . . not so anonymous anymore are you? lets hope that you can swim because the lulzboat just got titanic’d

Adding a little “humor,” a video clip of the song “My Heart Will Go On” from the movie Titanic was also posted. In addition, the group also stated that they will post the identities of every LulzSec member in the next issue of their magazine. So far, the Twitter account of LulzSec has remained quiet since the attack by TeaMp0isoN_.

Later, Sven Swootleg, the Dutch owner of the website hacked by TeaMp0isoN_ has denied that he is involved with LulzSec, and his statement can be found below.

This website was compromised through exploiting a plugin in an outdated WordPress setup, uploading a shell, and replacing the index page. I am not a member of Lulzsec (a statement I have made several times before in various places), noone “hacked the server” (this has been verified by the hosting company, as this website is on shared hosting) and this was definitely not an “elite hack”. I am not available for further comments to press.

How can we know that he’s telling the truth? The members of LulzSec are meant to stay anonymous, and he’s NOT going to publicly admit he’s affiliated with the group. However, who knows?

At E3 Conference, LA, Nintendo has unveiled their upcoming game platform, previously known as Project Cafe, and now officially known as “Wii U“. It is the next iteration to the current Wii which teased back in April. The device comes with a 6.2-inch integrated touchscreen display (with a stylus) acting as an augmented display, it has an integrated mic, gyroscope, camera, and it outputs full HD which is a huge step from the current device. The device will release in 2012.

Here are the full specs:

• 1.8 inches tall, 6.8 inches wide, 10.5 inches long
• Single-touch display
• The new controller incorporates a 6.2-inch, 16:9 touch screen and traditional button controls, including two analog Circle Pads. This combination removes the traditional barriers between games, players and the TV by creating a second window into the video game world. Metal Gear Maestro and game director Hideo Kojima unveiled new technology codenamed the “Fox Engine” at E3 Show today. As ign reports, this next-generation, multi-platform gaming engine will power a new project from Mr. Kojima, which is said to be something new from the designer after over a decade focused on directing Metal Gear Solid games.

Kojima still wants to keep the project under wraps. Instead, a technological showcase was presented showing the engine running in realtime featuring a young boy running through a jungle, there is a horse and a dog seen in the environment, both with realistic detailing rather than stylish interpretation.

The demonstration was run using an Xbox 360 dev kit, but the engine is built to run on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and other advanced gaming platforms. Kojima himself is directing a game on the “Fox Engine” that is planned for release across multiple platforms. Work on this Kojima Productions original engine was begun shortly after the completion of MGS4, with further development informed by the development of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The technology is, in part, made to provide a complete development suite for Konami developers, allowing for great-looking titles on reasonably shorter development schedules, according to Kojima.

Microsoft has released the full length World Premiere trailer for Epic Games’ hotly-anticipated Gears of War 3‘s campaign. Backed up by Black Sabbath’s War Pigs, the trailer shows off Marcus Fenix and the rest of the COG Armed Forces taking on all sorts of meanies, both Locust and Lambent, all while trying to find Marcus’ father and finally bring an end to the war which by the way look bigger and badder.

It seems like a nightmare for Sony as Reuters now reports that the Internet service provider unit of Japan’s Sony, alerted customers that an intruder broke into its system and stole virtual points from account holders worth $1,225.

This latest attacks comes after personal information of some 100 million Sony user accounts was stolen last month when its online gaming systems, the PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment, were hacked.

“What we’ve done is stopped the So-Net points exchanges and told customers to change their passwords,” So-Net said in a statement to customers on its website in Japanese.

About 100,000 yen ($1,225) was stolen from accounts that were attacked. The company said there was no evidence that other accounts in the online system had been hacked.

“At this point in our investigations, we have not confirmed any data leakage. We have not found any sign of a possibility that a third party has obtained members’ names, address, birth dates and phone numbers.”

Security experts, however said that Sony’s networks around the world remain vulnerable to attack.

Update:

There’s signs of a credit card phishing scam apparently running, live, on one of the company’s servers as reported by slashgear where F-Secure discovered the fake site, at hdworld.sony.co.th, inviting people to enter all their details for a card they’ll never get.

At time of writing the page was still up, though Google’s Chrome browser did warn us that it was a reported phishing site. F-Secure has apparently notified Sony, and we’re expecting the company to move with reasonable speed to make sure this all gets removed.

Actually figuring out how the pages got onto the servers, however, and what loopholes are being taken advantage of may take longer, and it seems that Sony isn’t out of the woods yet when it comes to addressing its security. There are also unconfirmed reports that phishers are sending out fake PSN password reset emails, so do be careful where you click.

Epic Games and Microsoft have achieved a big milestone today as the game Gears of War 3 has become the fastest pre-ordered title in Xbox 360 history and has broken 1 million orders. This comes as a result for statistics released for the public beta which ended on May 15, with an impressive 1.29 million players who participated in the franchise.

The game also logged some very impressive stats. check out the figures rundown below:

• 145 different countries participated in the beta
• 249 years worth of matches played
• More than 11 million matches completed
• More than 927 million kills recorded
• More than 131 million executions performed
• More than 23 million deaths by chainsaw
• Nearly 23 BILLION bullets fired
• 4.9 billion ribbons and 291M medals earned
• 435K people earned the Beta exclusive Thrashball Cole skin to use in the retail game when it launches in September
• 234K people earned the Beta exclusive Gold Retro Lancer to use in the retail game when it launches in September

Cliff Bleszinski, Epic Games’ Design Director commented on the success of the beta:

“We can’t thank the fans enough. The beta was a fun way to give players an early taste of our game, it also provided us with invaluable feedback to help us refine and polish ‘Gears of War 3’ to ensure it’s truly the culmination of the trilogy we promised to the fans.”

Gears of War 3 will be releasing September 20, 2011 exclusively for Xbox 360.

Sony’s new PlayStation Network security measures have seemingly been compromised just days after the service reboot.

According to reports from Nyleveia, a new exploit enables attackers to change other users’ passwords via the PSN password reset page members are forced to access when they first reconnect to the online service.

Attackers can apparently reset the password themselves using just a PSN account email and date of birth, pieces of data that were compromised in the recent PSN hack.

Despite the methods currently employed to force a password change when you first reconnect to the PlayStation network, your accounts still remain unsafe.
A new hack is currently doing the rounds in dark corners of the internet that allows the attacker the ability to change your password using only your account’s email and date of birth.

It has been proven to me through direct demonstration on a test account, so I am without any shadow of a doubt that this is real.

I would suggest that you secure your accounts now by creating a completely new email that you will not use ANYWHERE ELSE, and switching your PSN account to use this new email. You risk having your account stolen, when this hack becomes more public, if you do not make sure that your PSN account’s email is one that cannot be affiliated with or otherwise traced to you.

While we originally assumed this was a poor hoax designed only to stir the community into another frenzy, the individual who we are in contact with requested just two pieces of information from us: this being an account email and the date of birth used for that account. We promptly created a new account via us.playstation.com and provided the individual with the email address and date of birth used.

Roughly a minute later they requested that we try to login with the password we used for the account (which they did not know at any point), and sure enough, we were presented with an invalid username and/or password prompt.

While we will not reveal specific details regarding how the exploit is performed for obvious reasons, we can say that the exploit involves a vulnerability in the password reset form currently implemented, not properly verifying tokens.

Updated:

Sony has fixed the security breach found today. Sony’s Patrick Seybold has issued an update via the PlayStation Blog denying it was a “hack”, and saying Sony has fixed the issue.

We temporarily took down the PSN and Qriocity password reset page. Contrary to some reports, there was no hack involved. In the process of resetting of passwords there was a URL exploit that we have subsequently fixed.

Consumers who haven’t reset their passwords for PSN are still encouraged to do so directly on their PS3. Otherwise, they can continue to do so via the website as soon as we bring that site back up.

Sony just announced that over the next several hours it will be flipping the lights back on in its Playstation Network that has been since hackers attacked it nearly a month ago.

The company announced a phased restart to its network starting with the Americas followed by Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East. the company has also pushed out a software update 3.61 that will prompt users to change their password as part of the new security procedures put in place.

Hirai announced advanced security technology, encryption and additional firewalls:

We have greatly updated our data security systems. These changes were the result of an intensive investigation aided by some of the most respected forensic and security experts in the computer industry.

Here is the statement released from Sony today:

Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.

Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.
