Do you find Twitter so darn complicated to use? Well, Its time to change your mind, because the guys behind the service has just done a redesign of its web portal and mobile apps. You can update iPhone app right away.

Today we introduce a new version of Twitter. We’ve simplified the design to make it easier than ever to follow what you care about, connect with others and discover something new. You’ll see this new design both on Twitter.com and mobile phones, so that you’ll have a familiar experience any time, anywhere. We’ve also updated TweetDeck to be consistent with this new version.

Four new tabs bring you instantly closer to everything you care about, ”Home“, “Connect“, “Discover” and “Me“.

We’ll be rolling out the redesigned Twitter over the next few weeks. You can see it immediately on the just-updated versions of mobile.twitter.com, Twitter for iPhone, and Twitter for Android. You can get early access on your computer by downloading and logging into Twitter for iPhone or Twitter for Android. We’re working on updates for other apps, such as Twitter for iPad, and will share news as they become available.

How To Get The New Twitter Web Interface Right Now

Simply, install the Twitter for iPhone or Android app, sign-in and ta da! You will automatically get the new Twitter web-interface.

Its final, Twitter would soon begin to roll out ads, Promoted Tweets, in user timelines. The truth is that they’ve been talking about this possibility for a while. And they’ve even tested it with third party partners like Hootsuite. According to MG Siegler. Twitter will start placing them on Twitter.com.

The sponsored Tweets will only appear in your timeline if you already follow the account that has paid for the spot. If that’s the case, a single Promoted Tweet will appear at (or near) the top of your main timeline when you log in to twitter.com for the first time in any given day. As you get new Tweets, these Promoted Tweets will be pushed down just like regular Tweets. But if you refresh the page, the ad will appear at the top of the timeline again, is our understanding.

These ads will also be clearly marked as “Promoted” with an orange arrow icon below the tweet, the same way Promoted Tweets and Trends are currently shown on the sidebar or in search. And it will say the full company name of the company that is doing the promotion. These Tweets can also be dismissed from your timeline with one click. More from twitter blog:

That’s why starting today, we’re introducing a way to ensure that the most important Tweets from the organizations you follow reach you directly, by placing them at or near the top of your timeline. These Promoted Tweets will scroll through the timeline like any other Tweet, and like regular Tweets, they will appear in your timeline just once. Promoted Tweets can also be easily dismissed from your timeline with a single click.

Twitter now delivers a whopping 350 billion tweets each day, the company said on Friday by this tweet:

Delivering 350 billion Tweets a day is a terribly fun engineering challenge. But, it doesn’t capture how passionate our users are

The news comes just one day after Google announced that it had amassed 10 million Google+ users in just two weeks, and that these users share 1 billion items each day. This is good for a 2-week-old product though.

Google’s agreement with Twitter to carry its results has expired, taking with it much of the content that was in the service with it. Google has this explanation:

Since October of 2009, we have had an agreement with Twitter to include their updates in our search results through a special feed, and that agreement expired on July 2.

While we will not have access to this special feed from Twitter, information on Twitter that’s publicly available to our crawlers will still be searchable and discoverable on Google.

As for other features such as social search, they will continue to exist, though without Twitter data from the special feed.

Our vision is to have google.com/realtime include Google+ information along with other realtime data from a variety of sources.

Google Realtime Search had carried content from a variety of services beyond Twitter, including Facebook fan page updates, Quora and Gowalla content, Check out the full source list:

Still, as said, Twitter was the by far the most dominant content within the service. It’s unclear why the agreement was allowed to expire. Twitter has this to reply:

Since October 2009, Twitter has provided Google with the stream of public tweets for incorporation into their real-time search product and other uses. That agreement has now expired. We continue to provide this type of access to Microsoft, Yahoo!, NTT Docomo, Yahoo! Japan and dozens of other smaller developers. And, we work with Google in many other ways.

For its part, Google said:

Twitter has been a valuable partner for nearly two years, and we remain open to exploring other collaborations in the future.

Twitter has largely outsourced the service of Twitter search longer than a few days to Google, a deliberate decision so that Twitter could focus on other search features, such as its new Top Tweets feature

You can certainly understand why Google+ has become even more important to the service now. While Google has gotten by largely without social signals from Facebook, having its own data from Google+ gives it insulation if it now has to get by without Twitter signals, as well.

The last minute speculation and “leaked” stuff are becoming popular in every Apple event out there It’s the eve of Apple’s annual WWDC conference and it will not easily go without sort of unconfirmed tidbit gets leaked around.

This time, TechCrunch got their hands on what seems to be a new notification system in iOS 5:

“The last two are particularly interesting given the image above. Again, no clue if it’s actually real or not, but the idea might be right. Notifications that come down from the top bar could be how Apple ends up doing things in iOS 5. After all, this would mimic already existing functionality — when tethering, a blue strip appears along the top; when on the phone, it’s a green strip. Might notifications (or at least Twitter notifications) produce a gray strip?”

iOS 5 is believed to have a “deep” integration with Twitter. Perhaps this leak reveals how Twitter’s notifications will be integrated with the new system.

“But if the Weather app is to be believed, this is clearly a European version of iOS (note the 23 degrees Celsius in the icon instead of 72 degree Fahrenheit as you would see in the U.S.). Second, the Camera app icon is totally different, and looks a little odd being all-black, but who knows, maybe it’s changing. The icons are in the “correct” default order. Finally, if the talk of deep Twitter integration into iOS 5 is to be believed, it’s entirely possible that these new-style Twitter notifications could be working in iOS 5 right out of the box.”

Another possible notification system in iOS 5 might be looking similar to MobileNotifier, a jailbreak only tweak that handles notifications pretty good. Interestingly, the developer behind the tweak, Peter Hajas, was recently hired by Apple to work there.

iPad 2 is the only iDevice left with no jailbreak available yet and as the Jailbreak community seem rushed to figure out a rigid exploit, one of them, Stefan Esser a.k.a @i0n1c, a well known security guy among the jailbreak team, has recently thrown the word “Elevat0r” and began to tease a series of tweets since a month ago and apparently this is an iPad 2 jailbreak exploit. Stefan Esser has successfully found an exploit in iOS 4.3.1 which once again used in subsequent iOS 4.3.2 and iOS 4.3.3.

To tie the loosing ends, a new website elevat0r.com has surfaced and, interestingly, it says:

“Is an elevator arriving soon?

This website is dedicated to all those iPad 2 that are waiting for an elevator…
If your iPad 2 is waiting for an elevator don’t hesitate to share a photo of it with the rest of the world.”

And for more ambiguity they put another statement at the bottom which read:

“This website is not about an iPad 2 jailbreak, it is about photos of waiting iPad 2 only.”

The website is full of iPad 2 images showing a real elevator and it seems Stefan is waiting for 1000 images to be submitted before he reveals the expected jailbreak. He tweeted:

Twitter will start sending emails out letting you know when a follower retweets or favorites one of your tweets. The company has tweeted the news earlier today. Currently, users receive email notifications when they get new followers or receive direct messages only.

Starting today, we’re rolling out an email notification that lets you know if someone you follow retweets or favorites one of your Tweets.

Some users may find it helpful to know when a tweet of theirs has been particularly appreciated. For the others, email notifications can be turned off/on any time just go to “Settings,” then “Notifications” and “Activity.”

The move may be part of Twitter’s effort to encourage its users to be more engaged with the service however, we welcome these kind of stuff. The notification will be rolled out gradually, so be patient.

Twitter has just announced an updated mobile version for their web app, a redesigned experience on iPhone with seamless interaction allows to quickly scroll through your timeline, move between tabs and compose Tweets. The new app will show up selectively for some lucky users.

We want you to be able to access Twitter no matter where you are; regardless of what device you use; or, whether you prefer to access Twitter through a mobile application or the browser. Today, we’re starting to roll out a new version of twitter.com for mobile devices. This web app allows us to provide a high-quality and consistent Twitter experience on high-end touchscreen devices – whether or not an official Twitter application is available. It was built from the ground up for smartphones and tablets, which have more advanced browsers that support the latest web technologies, including HTML5.

The app is fast – you can quickly scroll through your timeline, move between tabs and compose Tweets. It’s rich – it takes advantage of capabilities that high-end device browsers offer, such as touch gestures and a large screen. Sony Santa Monica, the team behind those amazing God of War titles, is believed to be at work on God of War IV, which will likely be outed within the next few months. However, recent job postings have raised plenty of questions: several weeks back, we heard about a job listing for a Senior Online Programmer, and that caused everyone to assume the new GoW would boast online multiplayer.

Now, the Superannuation Twitter page has turned us onto two new job listings for the studio: a Level Designer with experience in “open world games” and a Senior Combat Designer that has experience in “both first- and third-person shooters” and “working with, developing or designing vehicle combat.” So what? A GTA knockoff? Anybody have any bright ideas?

We all know the fourth God of War will arrive at some point, and we’re fairly certain Sony Santa Monica will develop it. But they have to be working on something else, don’t you think?

Geohot may be interested in coming back to Jailbreak world as hinted by Chronic Dev Team key member Joshua Hill, and this time to make iPad 2 jailbreak which is the only device left with no solution yet.

@p0sixninja has tweeted:

I challenged geohot to dump the iPad2 bootrom before me. Maybe having a worthy opponent will motivate me to work harder =P

@p0sixninja confirmed that GeoHot has accepted his challenge:

he accepted, he said he didn’t have an iPad yet but he’s getting one really soon

This is a good news after Geohot busy days he spent fighting against the lawsuit by Sony for hacking into Playstation 3 firmware and both parties settled down finally, however. Hope we get a  bootrom level exploit instead of userland jailbreak this time.

We are waiting impatiently as no ETA provided yet.

Twitter has just used some of its magic potion to lay the ban hammer allover the @CEOSteveJobs parody Twitter account, which had approximately 460,000 followers and over 650 tweets at the time of deletion (boom, revolutionary). Chances of the suspension being removed? No idea.

Don’t believe in the power of crowdsourcing yet? Well, if initiatives such as Wikipedia and Ushahidi haven’t convinced you, the video below should pretty much negate anyone’s doubts about just how monumental a force crowdsourcing has become.

Earlier today, in response to the continued blackout of the Internet in Egypt, Google announced that it had set up phone numbers in Egypt for protesters to call into, that would then automatically be turned into voicemail messages, that would then be tweeted out on the account @Speak2Tweet.

As if that wasn’t cool enough, a number of volunteers outside of Egypt (you know, where the Internet still works) decided to collaborate online to get those voicemails – which are mainly in Arabic – translated into English and then we’re guessing that these will then tweeted out yet again (or perhaps they plan to put them all up on some kind of website?).

We captured a Google Docs spreadsheet just now of volunteers translating the phone messages left by Egyptian protesters at lightning speed. The video below is in real-time – we did nothing to speed it up. Either watch it and be in awe, or go right to the spreadsheet and watch it continue to update (or better yet, if you can translate Arabic to English, lend a hand!):

Update: We originally assumed that these translations would be retweeted out somehow, but we have yet to see evidence / the tweets yet. We’ve contacted Google (which most likely do not actually have any official connection to these volunteers) to see if it is aware of any efforts to get these translations tweeted out again, but regardless, the effort and the spirit of these volunteers speaks for itself. We’ll update as soon as we find out more information.

Twitter’s Got A Brand New Homepage

The homepage features vertical scrolling “top tweets”, side scrolling trending topics and a generally much more dynamic feel. Where possible, hovering over trending topics will give you an explanation as to why the topic is trending.

The search field is still placed, slightly discreetly, at the top but still positioned next to the logo to reflect its importance.

The overall look and feel of the site should appeal far more to newbies than in the past. With celebs and popular accounts to the left (which you can hover over by the way) as well as a link to Twitter’s 101 guide – there shouldn’t be too much confusion as to how the service works. That said, the short explanation above the “get started now” button leaves a little to be desired.

The top tweets section is brand new and links to a new “top tweets” account. The account supposedly follows everyone and algorithmically selects and retweets some of the most interesting tweets spreading across Twitter.

In a blog post, Twitter says to expect to see other iterations of the homepage design in an attempt to help users more easily discover “who and what they can find on Twitter, and how they can personalize and filter the stream of rapidly flowing information.”

Log out, and check it out. (note, some users are reportedly not seeing the new homepage. Don’t panic,)

Juste (dot) ru, the video scam that’s been spreading rapidly on Twitter, is actually a double-headed beast.

We’re now getting reports of the same video links being spammed through user accounts on Facebook, too. If you get a Facebook message with a link to Juste.ru, DO NOT click the link or visit the site – it appears to steal your credentials for both Twitter and Facebook, then abuse them to spread the scam further. Your Facebook friends get spam messages, and your Twitter followers get sent malicious Tweets.

This is perhaps the most vicious of social networking scams we’ve seen, affecting two networks simultaneously. Given that it’s able to grab logins from both sites, we’re assuming that it works by installing malware on the host machine, rather than simply asking for login details. We’ll continue to update once we have more information.

Current advisory: do not click links to “juste (dot) ru” on either Twitter or Facebook today. Also avoid any links on Facebook that simply say “Video” or “Best Video” – I’ve seen at least one example where it seems the link is hidden behind a short URL.

If you think you might be affected (ie. your Twitter or Facebook accounts are sending out spam links), run a full virus and spyware scan, clear your browser cookies and change your passwords on both services.
